“Truth for Truckers” *March 16, 2014* Psalm 46 “Be
still and know that I am God”
When all seems to be in a state of
commotion and confusion, the Lord calls out to His children by His Holy Spirit
and says: “Be still and know that I am
God” (v.10), I am in charge, regardless of how it looks on the outside,
regardless of world conditions, regardless of how it looks at the immediate
moment, He is in charge and has a plan for your life which includes every
promise found in the precious Word of God.
“He is able to do exceeding abundantly above
all that we ask or think according to the power that works within us”
(Ephesians 3:20) and that power is the Holy Spirit. But if we panic, if we
fear, instead of making God our Refuge (v.1, 7, 11) we will fall into the
devil’s plan. Notice, He is our Refuge is repeated in three verses of this
short Psalm, even when the earth is removed and the mountains are carried into
the sea, when it appears that all has come apart, He is our Refuge and
Strength...be still!
This Psalm quotes some of the conditions
that will occur during the end times when circumstances upon earth will be
supernaturally devastating. The earth will shake and quake, the mountains will
be removed into the sea, the waters will roar and be troubled. Yes, even now
some of these things are coming to pass as we are living in the time called “The beginning of sorrows” (Matthew 24:8)!
We are witnessing an increasing number and
intensity of major earthquakes according to actual data recorded over the last
few decades. Also, the constant storms, typhoons and hurricanes are causing the
waters of the oceans worldwide to roar and be troubled causing unheard of
destruction and death on the planet! The Lord Jesus Christ also spoke of
famines which are now prevalent in over forty countries.
He also spoke of pestilences/diseases and
they also are increasing rapidly. Witness the AIDS epidemic, ebola virus, avian
flu, swine flu, MERS and other uncontrolled viruses that have no vaccine or cure are
popping up in numerous places. Weather patterns are obviously closing in on the
supernatural in degree of swing in temperatures and the unusual storm intensity
and type.
But, this Psalm calls for calm in the
midst of trouble: “Be still and know that
I am God” (v.10). And I repeat; three times we are told “God is our refuge” and He is also
called our Strength. We will continue
to experience the beginning of sorrows and eventually the great tribulation but
NOT the wrath of God which follows (I Thessalonians 5:9). However, there is a
group of Hebrew young men who will remain upon earth after the Rapture occurs
who will need to know and lean upon this Psalm during the Day of the Lord/wrath
of God when the supernatural phenomenon of God’s judgments (Revelation 8-19)
will come to pass. But they will be protected from harm just like the children
of Israel when God judged Egypt.
They are the 144 Thousand who are sealed
for protection according to Revelation 7:3, 9:4 “And I heard the number of them that were sealed and there were sealed
one hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of Israel…And it was
commanded them [Scorpions] that they should not hurt the grass of the earth,
neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not
the seal of God in their foreheads.” However, those without the seal will
be tormented for five months causing men to “Seek
death but they will not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee
from them.” (Revelation 9:5, 6). When everything seems upside down, be
still and rest in the Lord!
