“Truth for
Truckers” *March 11, 2014* Psalm 41 “Answering
the Enemy”
This Psalm is divided into three parts. In (v.1-3) The Blessings of the Benefactor are focused upon. Those who
give to the poor are promised these (7) valuable blessings from the LORD:
- The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble
- The LORD will preserve him
- The LORD will keep him alive
- The LORD will bless him upon the earth
- The LORD will not deliver him unto his enemies
- The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing
- The LORD will make all his bed in his sickness
The second part lists The
Attacks of His Three Enemies (v.4-9). David calls upon the LORD for
mercy and healing from the #1 enemy which is SIN. His second enemy is the Devil
himself as he accuses and speaks evil of David in (v.5-8). “An evil disease” (v.8a) literally means “A thing of Belial” which is another name for the Devil. Then #3,
in (v.9) David’s own familiar friend also turns against him.
The third section shows David’s
Call for Help (v.10-12) and his right response to these numerous
attacks from his enemies: “But Thou O’ LORD be merciful unto me, and
raise me up, that I may requite them. By this I know that Thou favors, because
my enemy does not triumph over me. And as for me, Thou uphold me in my
integrity and set me before Thy face for ever.” (v.10-12)
Giving to the poor will be blessed. In essence those who give become an
extension of the Arm of God. And even though the enemy attacks from all sides
those who take a stand for the LORD, the mercy of the LORD and His ability to
raise us up and uphold us in our integrity, regardless, must be our focus. David’s concluding words are filled
with his exaltation of God: “Blessed be
the LORD God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen.
(v.13) which is also our NEW SONG today!
Drivers, with Godly obedience to these principles we definitely will gain
the continual victory over our enemies and get the promised blessings through our
Lord Jesus Christ!
