“Truth for Truckers” *March 10, 2014* Psalm 40
“Testimony”
Although this is a powerful Messianic
Psalm, our focus for the day is upon our testimony, for it is the most valuable
thing we own. We can not buy it with money, but it is the very key to our
success as we go throughout our lives. It gives us the ability to perform our
number one job, and that is to be a witness for the Lord Jesus.
David in (v.1-5) gives us some important insights about his testimony.
First of all he waited patiently on the LORD and He gave David five different responses.
He inclined His ear unto David and heard his cry. Even though David was
patiently waiting, his cry shows that he needed an urgent answer.
Then the LORD did what only He could do, He brought David out of the
horrible pit of sin. Notice the direction was up because was down in the pit
where he was without hope except God deliver him from the power of darkness and
translate him into the Kingdom of His dear Son, the Lord Jesus Christ
(Colossians 1:13).
God answered and set him upon the Rock Christ Jesus and for that reason
David now had all the blessings of being in Christ. Not only did He set him
upon the Lord Jesus, but He established his goings. David received stability in
his formerly unstable ways which were directed by self, sin and Satan. Now, he
had direction.
The next thing God did was put a NEW SONG in the sweet Psalmist’s mouth.
His singing was turned into joyous Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs. And, the
result of His transformational singing was the blessing of many who would hear.
Saints and sinners alike would be blessed by his NEW SONG “For if any man be in Christ he is a new creature, old things [Old
songs/actions] are passed away and behold all things are become NEW! [NEW SONG,
NEW SPEECH, NEW SATISFACTIONS] NEW LIFE in Christ!! (II Corinthians 5:17)
David ends this brief testimony section by pronouncing the blessedness
of the man who trusts in the LORD followed by the actions and continued
benefits of the blessed man and those who put their faith in the LORD (v.4, 5).
In (v.6-10 the Lord Jesus Christ gives His testimony with David ending this
Psalm with (10) requests from the LORD in (v.11-17).
But, Drivers, the key application for us is to keep our testimony clean
and ready to tell others how the Lord brought us up from the horrible pit and
set us upon the Rock Christ Jesus, establishing our goings having put a NEW
SONG in our mouth! Pray that the Lord will also send many to you to hear and
trust in the Lord!
