“Truth for Truckers” *March 15, 2014* Psalm 45 “The
Love Psalm of the King”
The Love Psalm of the King is the title
for this Christ exalting Psalm as He is focused upon as The Man of War (v.1-5)
and Messiah on the Throne (v.6-8) then His Church/Bride Revealed in (v.9-15) and
the last two verses focus on the Lord Jesus Christ: ‘The King of king’s Name
Praised Forever’ (v.16, 17).
In our brief study we will only focus on
the Lord Jesus as The Man of War (v.2-5) where He is described as: ‘Fairer than the children of men: grace is
poured into Thy lips: therefore God has blessed Thee forever.’ (v.2) Then
He is told to: ‘Gird on Thy Sword upon
Thy thigh, O Most Mighty, with Thy glory and Thy majesty. And in Thy majesty
ride prosperously because of Truth and meekness and righteousness; and Thy
right hand shall teaches Thee terrible things. Thine arrows are sharp in the
heart of the King’s enemies; whereby the people fall under Thee.’ (v.3-5)
His title as Man of War was given to Him
way back in Exodus 15:3 in Moses song of celebration after the LORD defeated
Pharaoh and his army. He will once again gird on His sword but it will be
coming out of His mouth in Revelation 19:15 “And
out of His mouth goes a sharp two-edged Sword, that with it He should smite the
nations”.
This time of conflict when He comes to
earth on His white horse as described in the book of Revelation 19:11-21 is what is in focus in
(v.3-5). Then, He will defeat the armies of the beast, the Antichrist, and the
False Prophet at the Battle of Armageddon after which: ‘These both will be cast into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.
And the remnant were slain with the sword of Him that sat upon the horse, which
sword proceeded out of His mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their
flesh.’
(Revelation 19:20, 21)
Then in (v.6-8) the Messiah, the Lord
Jesus Christ is on His eternal Throne, He is called God, as King. His scepter
is a right scepter and He is anointed by God the Father. The New Testament repeats
the truth of these verses: ‘But unto the
Son He says, Thy Throne O God is forever and ever: a scepter of righteousness
is the scepter of Thy Kingdom. Thou loved righteousness, and hated iniquity;
therefore God, even Thy God, has anointed Thee with the oil of gladness above
Thy fellows.’ (Hebrews 1:8, 9)
The Lord Jesus will indeed rule upon His
eternal Throne following the Battle of Armageddon which ends the Day of the
Lord. Then He will rule upon the Throne of His father David (Luke 1:32) during
the 1,000 years following which is also called the Millennium (Revelation
20:4-6). Let us thank the Lord that we are on the winning side as we look
forward to the time when we will reign with Him on earth!
