“Truth for Truckers” *March 29, 2014* Psalm 29 “The Voice of the LORD ”
This Psalm opens with three repeated commands to give glory to the LORD
followed by another command to worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness in
(v.1, 2). Four commands to give glory and worship the LORD demonstrate the
emphasis for the Believer to do the same. So, how do we give glory to the Lord?
One way we can give glory is by telling others of our salvation. How the Lord
brought us to Himself by delivering us from the power of darkness and
translating us into the Kingdom of His dear Son (Colossians 1:13).
Another way is to praise Him for the changes He has made in our lives/family.
And, we can give Him the glory for supplying our needs. Telling of His working
in our own lives is a good way to give Him glory. Also, telling of how He is
working in the lives of others is another opportunity to give Him glory. Surely
we can do what we are commanded to do in the first two verses of this powerful
Psalm. If we pray for opportunities the Lord will give us the ability to obey
and glorify Him for His great goodness to us. Just a few weeks ago the Lord
performed a miracle for me. As I lay in bed suffering from an intestinal
blockage I appealed to the Lord on the basis of the Lord Jesus’ atonement
(Isaiah 53:5) and He immediately cleared the blockage and I have been praising
Him for this great blessing ever since! It truly is amazing what praising can
do! Give Him the glory!
The focus of the next section of the Psalm turns
to the Voice of the LORD and its power and presence. Eight different activities
and descriptions are given to the Voice of the LORD in (v.3-9a):
- “The Voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thunders: the LORD is upon many waters.
- “The Voice of the LORD is powerful
- “The Voice of the LORD is full of majesty
- “The Voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; yea, the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
- “The Voice of the LORD divides the flames of fire [strikes with flashes of lightning]
- “The Voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness: the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
- “The Voice of the LORD makes the hinds to calve
- “The Voice of the LORD discovers [strips bare] the forests
“And in His temple does everyone
speak of His glory. The LORD sits upon the flood; yea, the LORD sits King for
ever. The LORD will give strength unto His people; the LORD will bless His
people with peace.” (v.9b-11)
This grand conclusion to a very majestic
Psalm which focuses entirely upon the LORD underlines the people’s reaction to
the great declarations concerning the Voice of the LORD. Everyone speaks
of His glory. Then two promises “Strength and Peace” are given to those who
simply obey these simple charges from David.
That is the application for us, Drivers, for if we have been born from
above by His Spirit, we are now the Temple of the Living God. He lives in us,
so, it is for us to recognize His presence in us and glorify Him in whatsoever
we do! “Whether therefore ye eat or drink
or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God”
(I
Corinthians 10:31).Yes,
it is possible to drive for the glory of God, it is possible to deliver a load
for the glory of God, it is possible to live out the entire day to His glory as
we praise Him for His great goodness in all things!
