“Truth for Truckers” *February 10, 2014* Psalm 10
“Three Statements of the Wicked Heart”
The tenth Psalm gives an inside look at the thought process of the
wicked, the person that does not know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior.
And although there are a number of introductory verses showing the
natural attitude of the wicked as boastful and pride-filled there are only
three that include the word heart which show the actual words that the wicked
speaks to himself. It is these three instances that are the focus of our brief
study.
In (v.6) “He [the wicked] hath
said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.”
This bold statement shows that those who know not the Lord do not believe that
trouble will ever come into their lives. The word “moved” literally means
shaken. Trouble like they have never seen is coming upon the wicked: “The wicked are like the troubled sea when
it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace saith my
God to the wicked.” (Isaiah 57:20, 21). Solomon wrote: “His calamity shall come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without
remedy.” (Proverb 6:15) God’s ultimate verdict is sure and sudden!
Then in (v.11) “He [the wicked]
hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: He hides His face; He will never
see it.” Here the wicked thinks that his assault on the innocent and the
poor (v.8-10) will be forgotten by God, that God is not aware because He hides
His face, never seeing his sinful acts. However, the God of the Bible is omniscient,
knowing all, He is omnipresent seeing all and omnipotent, has the power to
judge the wicked!
This last statement ties in with (v.1i) “Wherefore does the wicked contemn God? He has said in his heart, Thou
will not require it.” (v.13) According to the following passage in the book
of the Revelation of Jesus Christ, God will require it: “I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it…And I saw the dead
small and great, stand before God…and the dead were judged…according to their
works…And whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the
lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:11-15) Enough said, God will bring all acts
of the wicked into His final judgment!
The application for us, Drivers, is this: the wicked do not really
understand the truth of the Scripture, for they are in essence children of the
wicked one. They are still in Adam. So, for us to understand their mind-set
should be a motivation to give them the Gospel of the good news of the Lord’s
death, burial land resurrection for their sins.
Someone was kind enough to tell us how to be saved when we were lost and
in bondage to this same kind of thinking, therefore let us equip ourselves to
be powerful witnesses for Jesus by arming ourselves with His Word, and “Be ready always to give an answer to every
man that asks us a reason of the hope that is in us with meekness and fear.” (I
Peter 3:15).
