“Truth for Truckers” *March 13, 2014* Psalm 43 “O send
out Thy Light and Thy Truth”
‘O send out Thy Light and Thy Truth, let
Them lead me; let Them bring me unto Thy Holy Hill, and to Thy Tabernacles.
Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy: yea, upon the
harp will I praise Thee, O God my God.’(Psalm 43:3, 4)
This powerful request and following pledge
from David, speak of his great desire for the Light of God and the Truth of
God, both of which are stated to be embodied in the Lord Jesus Christ as He
appropriately claimed both of these to be His inherent qualities: ‘I am the Light of the world’ (John 8:12),
and ‘I am the Way and the Truth and the
Life’ (John 14:7) in two of His seven great ‘I ams’. This call of David for the cure from his persecution and
oppression points to the Savior of the world Who was and is and always will be
the cure for man’s dilemma, the dilemma that finds it’s ultimate source in a
three letter word called sin.
The
Cry of the Persecuted (v.1, 2) is due
to ‘An ungodly nation...the deceitful and
unjust man...the enemy’ all who are focused on bringing the child of God much
‘Mourning’ and ‘Oppression’. The sadness and discouragement that the devil’s
advocates bring upon the Believer are ever present to those who fall into his
trap, the cure for which is found in (v.3, 4)
The
Call for the Cure (v.3, 4) is focused
on the Lord Jesus Christ. He, the Light and Truth of God alone has the ability to ‘Lead’ and ‘Bring’ the child of God ‘unto
Thy Holy Hill, and to Thy Tabernacles’. It is only by abiding in Him,
connecting to the Vine, as we are taught in John 15:1-8 that we come into the
presence and power of God which is what David’s emphasis is here.
He knows that only the Light and the Truth
of God can perform this powerful work of the Holy Spirit as He exalts the Lord
Jesus Christ in the heart of the Blood-bought saint. It is then and only then
that the LORD is present in ministering power, when ‘I go unto the altar’ at the foot of the Cross (Hebrews 13:10) where
confession of sin, and the spiritual sacrifice of praise is offered unto the
LORD.
Then, God becomes our ‘Exceeding Joy’ through the fullness of the Holy Spirit Who
produces this spiritual sacrifice, and the ultimate act of worship next to the
spiritual sacrifice of the body (Romans 12:1,2) is making music to the LORD ‘Upon the harp will I praise Thee, O God my
God.’ (v.4). This Song of the Spirit which is also a NEW SONG is referred
to in Colossians 3:16 and Ephesians 5:19 as the indwelling Word and the fullness
of the Spirit bring forth the music of the soul in exaltation of the LORD!
The
Compelling Questions (v.5): ‘Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why
art thou disquieted within me?’ The answer is immediately given: ‘Hope in God’. This simple command
demanding the faith of the one who is found in this condition is mirrored by Mark 11:22 ‘Have faith in God’ which was
Hudson Taylor’s [Pioneering faith-filled missionary to Inland China] life
verse.
‘Cast
your care upon Him for He cares for you’ (I Peter 5:7). If this is done the
result will be: ‘For I shall yet praise
Him, Who is the Health of my countenance, and my God.’ (v.5) The exaltation
of God will be the end of the matter, when faith is exercised in Him, Who alone
is the Light and the Truth, the Lord Jesus Christ. Drivers, are you going
through times of difficulty? Call upon Him now… He is waiting!
